Author's Notes
--------------

For standard info please read the main readme.txt

This folder contains the version of Carpathian Nightmare with the brushes intact so others can take a look at what I did and how I did it.

There are a few things to be aware of when messing with this map, namely:

* This map uses Brush cloning, brush cloning is a trick to create identical copies of a brush that all share a set of properties like texture, texture scaling, alignment, flags, etc. If you change one of those properties and rebuild the level ALL brushes from the same set of clones WILL be updated to reflect the changes you made to the first brush of the set.
If you are interested in this technique a tutorial can be found here : http://hellkeeper.net/tutoriaux/Clones.php

* The map was build using the following settings in order to get the file size down the the 512k limit, under build options "Optimise Geometry" was turned OFF, the slider "Minimise Cuts - Balance Tree" was set to 1, the slider "Ignore Portals - Portals Cut All" was set to 99.

* I crammed as much as I could into existing actors to save space, that means I added sound into lights, added light into path-nodes and other stuff into other actors.

* Some brushes have been intersected in order to reduce the number of surfaces and simplify lighting.

* Lighting is a mix and match of super-low shadow detail (high and low shadow detail on at the same time), low shadow detail, normal, high shadow detail, and unlit to maximise visuals while minimising file size.

* Pathing is kept as minimal as possible in order to save space and parts of the pathing rely on the pickups throughout the map.

* I made the choice to use a 128x128 screenshot for the map in order to save 64K (IIRC) that I could use to make the map look a lot better.

I hope anyone reading this will learn a thing or two from my work but keep in mind that I aggressively optimised for a small file size NOT for stability
